The United States is Bangladesh's one of the most important trading partners, with approximately 19-20 per cent of its exports are being destined for the United States. Bilateral trade between the United States and Bangladesh was over US$10 billion in 2021. From the United States perspective, however, Bangladesh is a small trading partner, Bangladesh was the 46th largest trading partner of the United States in 2020.

Bangladesh's major exportable include woven apparel, knit apparel, miscellaneous textile articles, cap, headgear, footwear, tobacco, snacks foods, furniture, ceramic ware, toys, plastic items, artificial flowers etc; while major importable include raw cotton, chemicals, machinery and equipment, pharmaceuticals, aircraft, electrical equipment, iron and steel etc.

Despite high import tariffs in USA, the apparel-based products from Bangladesh have made successful inroad there in the recent years. About 87-88 per cent of exports from Bangladesh to the United States is ready made garments.

Bangladesh's total apparel products exports in USA was worth $4.29 billion in 2010 and it reached about $7.30 billion during 2021 (Source: BGMEA). Bangladesh is the third largest apparels exporters to the United States.
