Liberation war affairs minister tells JS; says monthly allowance of freedom fighters increased
The government will publish a comprehensive list of all martyred intellectuals of 1971 by June, and has increased the monthly allowance for freedom fighters to Tk 5,000 from existing Tk 2,000, with effect from January, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque told parliament yesterday.
He made the announcements following a query by Awami League lawmaker M Abdul Latif during the question-answer session. In his reply, Mozammel said his ministry did not have a list of martyred intellectuals but it was trying to make one by June 30.
He also said 1.5 lakh freedom fighters would get the monthly allowance while answering the question of AL lawmaker Sobu Bishwas.
Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju said 14,270 trees of the forest department were felled during the last one year of the opposition movement, and 142 cases were filed in this regard. He was replying to a question of AL MP Habibur Rahman Mollah.
In response to a star-marked question from treasury bench member Mohammad Subid Ali Bhuiyan, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury informed parliament that there was 8.52 million hectares of arable land in the country, and the government had taken various measures under the National Agriculture Policy 1999 to protect that land.
When Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal lawmaker Nazmul Haque Prodhan drew her attention of the incident that farmers had spread potatoes on the roads to protest low prices, Matia said the government already taken steps to export potatoes. Some 700 containers of potatoes are being exported to Russia, she added.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon said two Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft would be added to the fleet of Bangladesh Biman in February-March.
